New York City, New York -- (May 30, 2013)
Natural gas prices fell to record low levels last year thanks mainly to the shale revolution in the U.S. One of the biggest beneficiaries of low natural gas prices has been the U.S. electric utilities industry. Record low natural gas prices have allowed several companies to switch from coal to natural gas to generate power. Also, natural gas is cleaner than coal therefore switching to natural gas has allowed electric utilities in the U.S. to meet new environmental regulations. On Wednesday, May 29, 2013, shares in electric utilities ended mostly lower, tracking losses in the broad market, which fell as concerns over the Federal Reserve’s bond buying program continue to linger. The major movers in the sector included FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), American Electric Power Company Inc. (NYSE: AEP), Dominion Resources Inc. (NYSE: D), Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR), and Wisconsin Energy Corporation (NYSE: WEC). StockCall free coverage on FE, AEP, D, ETR, and WEC is available upon registration at
