Granite-led Project Recognized as one of the Best Highway and Transportation Projects of 2013 by the Associated General Contractors

GVA

Team also recognized with the AGC Build America Marvin M. Black Partnering Merit Award

Granite Construction Incorporated (NYSE:GVA) announced today that the Mountain View Corridor Project in Salt Lake City, Utah, built by Copper Hills Constructors, a Granite-led joint venture comprised of Granite, Kiewit and W.W. Clyde, has been honored with Associated General Contractors of America’s (AGC) Alliant Build America Merit Award for Best New Highway and Transportation Project and the Marvin M. Black Partnering Excellence Award.

“Projects like these reflect the qualities – elite skill, diligence and resolve – that have made the construction industry successful,” said Paul Diederich, the association’s president and president of Grand Forks, N.D.-based Industrial Builders Inc. “These contractors are setting the standard of excellence in our industry.”

The project was one of Utah’s largest roadway construction contracts and included a new 15-mile highway in southwest Salt Lake County. The project included earthwork, nine miles of asphalt and six miles of concrete paving, 10 new bridges, drainage, traffic signals and lighting, reconstruction of local cross streets and an intelligent transportation system. At its peak, the $245 million project employed over 300 people, with work progressing in six different municipalities at one time.

The Alliant Build America Merit Awards highlight the nation’s most significant construction projects. A panel of judges, representing all areas of construction, evaluated an impressive number of submissions this year, assessing each project’s complexity, use of innovative construction techniques and client satisfaction, among other criteria. The awards, which were announced during the association’s annual convention in Las Vegas, are considered by many to be the most prestigious recognition of construction accomplishments in the U.S.

The AGC Build America Marvin M. Black Partnering Merit Award (now represented by a category within the Alliant Build America Awards) is presented annually to construction project(s) that epitomize the principles of partnering. Inspired by AGC’s Past President Marvin M. Black, the inclusion of partnering into the Build America Awards represents a timely and unified celebration of the construction industry’s finest.
