The New York Times Expands Travel Program

NYT

The New York Times today announced the expansion of its travel program, Times Journeys (NYTimes.com/times-journeys) to now include 21 land based-tours, which between them visit over 30 countries.

Each exclusive tour package is inspired by Times content with either Times journalists or hand-picked subject matter experts who will join guests at various stages on some trips.

The new Times Journeys offers three distinct trip styles – “Luxury Travel,” which ranges from South African safaris and tours to China, where guests visiting the Forbidden City gain private access to rooms normally closed to the public; “Active Travel,” offering adventurers opportunities to discover Machu Picchu in Peru without the crowds or to picnic amongst the vineyards of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape in Provence; and “Focus On,” which provides immersion in a particular subject area, from Italian Opera to Israeli & Palestinian relations.

Times Journeys launched in 2012, primarily as a cruise program.

“Whether it’s in our weekly Sunday Travel Section, the pages of T Travel or in our vast Arts & Entertainment Guide, The New York Times has been a consummate provider of travel and culture news and information for decades,” said Michael Greenspon, general manager, The New York Times News Services and International. “After the success of our initial Times Journeys program on cruises, we decided to expand our program to include land-based departures, offering participants unique insights and authentic cultural experiences to even more destinations around the globe.”

The New York Times is working with travel providers Abercrombie & Kent, Mountain Travel Sobek and Academic Travel Abroad for the newest tours and expansion of the Times Journeys program.

Every tour is unique and each provides accommodation, a variety of meals, entrance to sites and attractions and a number of expert-led sessions. The Times plans to add more trips over the course of the year. For more information please visit NYTimes.com/times-journeys.
