TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 22, 2014) - TeraGo Inc. (TSX:TGO) (www.terago.ca), a leading national broadband services and colocation provider to businesses in Canada, announced today that it has continued to expand its data center business in Western Canada through the acquisition of a 7,000 square foot data center facility in downtown Vancouver, B.C.. This is the second TeraGo operated data center in the Vancouver market.
The facility had been previously managed by Bell Canada and will be served by the fibre network that TeraGo Networks recently acquired and announced in February. The addition will provide TeraGo with the capability to service the co-location and disaster recovery needs of businesses through the BC Lower Mainland.
"TeraGo's strategy is to become a full-service IT provider by offering complementary services to our customers, and acquiring an additional data centre facility in downtown Vancouver is another step towards this objective," said Stewart Lyons, CEO and President of TeraGo Networks. "The demand for data centre services for small and medium businesses is steadily increasing in central business districts across Canada. This acquisition - which gives us over 14,000 square feet of downtown Vancouver data centre, a strong position in a market short on space - will allow us to continue providing the tools necessary for Vancouver-based businesses to grow."
TeraGo Networks acquired Data Centers Canada (DCC) in May 2013 as a part of its strategic initiative to offer complementary services to business and enterprise customers. The DCC facility in Vaughan, ON is 16,000 square feet and provides data center solutions to businesses, enterprises, public sector, and technology service providers. In February 2014, the company announced the acquisition of its first downtown Vancouver data centre. Both of the B.C. facilities will operate under the Data Centers Canada brand.
Lyons concluded, "With our access solutions, our growing number of data centre facilities, and our developing cloud product portfolio, TeraGo is perfectly positioned to become a leading full-service IT provider."
