NTT
Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP
services arm of Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT (NYSE: NTT), today
announced its participation at the International
Telecoms Week (ITW) 2014 taking place in Chicago, May 11-14. ITW,
one of the most prominent global events for the wholesale
telecommunications community, brings together participants from around
the world and provides the opportunity to network with industry peers,
suppliers and customers.
Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of the NTT Com’s Global IP
Network at NTT America, will join industry leaders on the panel
“Exploring the Content/Carrier Dynamic and the Potential for Mutual
Benefit” on Tuesday, May 13th, at 11:00 a.m. The session will
focus on how carriers and content providers can redefine their
relationships to create a win-win situation for all as new models and
ideas are changing the telecommunications landscape.
“The relationships between carriers and content providers are rapidly
evolving and it is critical that they become more symbiotic for mutual
benefit,” Wheeler said. “Carriers need to evolve their role in the
ecosystem so they can continue to exist, and ultimately thrive, while
simultaneously ensuring that market realities don’t make them
irrelevant,” he added. “Carriers have a great opportunity to leverage
the current market dynamics if they utilize some creativity and leverage
technology in unique ways,” Wheeler concluded.
NTT Com is in a unique position to address global wholesale trends and
opportunities, as the company was named by leading market research firm Renesys
earlier this year as one of the top 2013 wholesale IP providers
worldwide. Two reports from Renesys—the widely popular Baker’s Dozen
list and the Wholesale Rankings 2013—put NTT Com in one of
the top spots in the global IP transit rankings.
In Asia, the company retained its position as the leading provider of
wholesale IP services, again topping the ranking; while in North
America, NTT Com ranked third (up from eighth at the end of 2012) and in
Europe, sixth (up from ninth a year before). The company also held top
spots in other fast-growing IP markets, ranking fourth in
Oceania/Australia and sixth in Africa. This is one of the company’s
strongest performances since these closely watched wholesale rankings
have been compiled, consolidating NTT Com’s leadership in an
increasingly competitive market.
