Executive will lead 1,345 retail units; more than 285,000 associates
MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 30, 2014 /CNW/ - Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT)
today announced the promotion of Shelley Broader, currently president
and CEO of Walmart Canada, to executive vice president, president and
CEO of Walmart EMEA. In her new role, Ms. Broader will lead Walmart's
retail operations and oversee business development in Europe, the
Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa and Canada and will report directly to
David Cheesewright, president and CEO, Walmart International. The
company will announce Ms. Broader's successor at a later date. She will
continue to have responsibility for the Canadian market -- along with
Europe, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa -- until her successor
is in place.
Ms. Broader, who will assume her new role effective June 1, joined
Walmart Canada as chief merchandising officer in December 2010 and was
promoted to president and CEO of Walmart Canada in September 2011. She
joined Walmart with more than 20 years of leadership experience across
the North American retail industry which included key leadership roles
with retailers Michael's and Hannaford Bros.
