Natural Grocers Teaming With The Community To Feed Neighbors In Need On Thanksgiving

NGVC

You Buy the Fixings, They'll Buy the Turkeys

EUGENE, Ore., Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, Inc. (NYSE: NGVC), Eugene's newest natural food store known for its higher standards, nutrition education and affordable prices, is teaming with the community to feed neighbors in need this Thanksgiving.

Starting November 1st and running through the 15th, the Eugene store, located at 201 Coburg Road, will be accepting donations of Thanksgiving fixings from shoppers and donating up to 100 free-range, non-GMO turkeys.  All donations will be given to the Food For Lane County food bank for distribution to local families in need.  In addition, on the 15th, the store will donate five percent of total sales to the food bank.

"At Natural Grocers, our mission goes far beyond the walls of our stores," said Kemper Isely, co-president of Natural Grocers.  "Knowing that one in five adults and one out of every three children in Oregon face hunger, determining ways for our company and our customers to provide good healthy meals is simply our community role," Isely explained.

Giving to the food bank happens year-round at the store through the store's B.Y.O. Bag Program.  Because all Natural Grocers checkouts are paper and plastic bag-free, and have been since Earth Day 2009, when customers bring their own re-usable bags (any bags), the stores give back to the community by donating 5 cents per shopper to the local food bank partner. It's a win-win!

The Eugene Natural Grocers is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:04 pm. On Sunday the store will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:06 p.m. Customers are welcome to stay and shop a little after the hour.

About Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage
Founded in Colorado by Margaret & Philip Isely in 1955, Natural Grocers was built on the premise that consumers should have access to affordable, high-quality foods and dietary supplements, along with nutrition knowledge to help them support their own health. The family-run store has since grown into a successful national chain with locations across Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, and employs over 2000 people.  The company went public in July 2012 and Isely family members continue to manage the company day to day, building on the foundation of their parents' business. Natural Grocers' popularity and success can be traced back to its founding principles: dedication to providing science-based nutrition education, exceptional customer service, the highest quality natural and organic products at affordable prices, supporting their communities and providing great jobs with excellent benefits and a living wage to their employees. www.naturalgrocers.com
