Methode Announces NP-100 Prototype and Development Printer for the Printed Electronics Market

MEI

"Printed Electronics Solutions Made Simple"

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Nov 13, 2014) - Methode Development Company (MDC), a division of Methode Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: MEI), a global developer of custom engineered and application specific products and solutions, announced today its NP-100, a flatbed printer for printed electronics, which enables the creation of functional electrical circuits, eliminates tooling and reduces development time.

The NP-100 development and prototype printer is a robust platform that provides customers an expanded ability to work with a wider range of substrates for development and prototype production. It is capable of printing on rigid or flexible substrates up to two inches thick. Engineers and designers can choose from a variety of resolutions and/or drop sizes to alter resistance levels or circuit definitions. Circuit patterns can be created in the layout program that is included with the printer software, or uploaded from an AutoCad or PDF file. Quick adjustments can easily be accommodated, simplifying the development cycle. This flexibility, combined with the ease of operation and maintenance, makes the NP-100 a valuable tool for the emerging printed electronics market.

According to IDTechEx's report "Conductive Inks Market 2014-2024: Forecasts, Technologies, Players" sales of conductive inks are expected to grow from $1.6 billion to $2.5 billion. Inkjet printing is an efficient and cost effective manufacturing process that security printing, RFID, signage, displays, backplane, photovoltaic and security markets require. The conductive properties of Methode's inks are well suited for the growing printed electronics market, as resistance levels as low as 0.03 Ohms per square can be obtained when the ink is printed with Methode's NP-100 Inkjet Printer. The 9100 conductive inkjet series is water-based, RoHS compliant and contains a range of inks for a wide variety of substrates and printhead technologies.

MDC will showcase the new NP-100 Printer and a full range of printed electronics solutions and capabilities at the Printed Electronics USA 2014 trade show at the Santa Clara Convention Center in San Jose, CA, on November 19 and 20, 2014, in Booth #I07.
