Westhaven drills 153.7 metres of 0.18% nickel and 0.010% cobalt at BEN

V.WHN

VANCOUVER, Dec. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Westhaven Ventures Inc. (TSX-V:WHN) is pleased to provide assay results from a recently completed drill program at its 15,322 hectare BEN property, located approximately 50 km north of Williams Lake, B.C. The drill program consisted of 9 holes, totaling 930 metres of diamond drilling, as a follow-up to previous drilling reported in the news release dated October 7, 2014.

Highlights from the program include:

  • Hole BN14-16 intersected 19.7 metres of 0.28% Nickel (Ni) and 0.012% Cobalt (Co) starting from bedrock surface
  • Hole BN14-19 intersected 153.7 metres of 0.18% Ni and 0.010% Co starting from bedrock surface
  • Hole BN14-22 intersected 57.7 metres of 0.21% Ni and 0.011% Co
  • Hole BN14-23 intersected 106.6 metres of 0.18% Ni and 0.010% Co

This most recent phase of widely spaced drilling, in several separate areas, strengthens management's belief that large scale tonnage potential exists on this easily accessible and well situated property. A drill location map can be found on Westhaven's website at http://westhavenventures.com/_resources/maps/airborne_magnetics.png

All drill holes targeted strong magnetic anomalies delineated by a recently completed 122 line kilometre ground magnetic survey. Drill holes BN14-15 and BN14-16 were designed to test the near surface projection of the Skelton zone along strike from hole BN13-03 that intersected 70.6 metres containing 0.31% nickel and 0.012% cobalt. Holes BN14-17 and BN14-18 tested the eastern extension of the magnetic anomaly 300 metres to the east.

BN14-19, located approximately 6 kilometres to the south of the Skelton zone, tested the Southern lobe, a magnetic target 800 x 850 metres in area. Drilling intersected highly serpentinized ultramafic rocks from bedrock surface to 186 metres depth containing 153 metres grading 0.18% Ni and 0.010% Co that remains open in all directions. BN14-20 and BN14-21 tested the Ring zone, a large 1,500 metre diameter serpentine ring dyke located 2.2 kilometres northeast from BN14-19. BN14-22 and BN14-23 tested the Northern lobe, a 4 kilometre long northwest trending magnetic anomaly located 700 metres north of BN14-21.

Every drill hole intersected shallow dipping bodies of magnetite-rich serpentinized ultramafics containing nickel-sulphide mineralization. A summary of notable intersections follows:

Note: Ni % (Total) denotes analyses derived from multi-element Aqua Regia ICP-MS analyses. Ni %( In Sulphide) denotes analyses based on the selective decomposition of nickel sulphide derived from ammonium citrate and hydrogen peroxide leach analyses. Ni S % denotes percentage of nickel present in sulphides.

Ben Property Overview

Since October 2013, 23 drill holes have been completed in 3 campaigns totaling 2,610 metres. Drilling has indicated that there are large areas throughout the property that are underlain by nickeliferous serpentine with high nickel sulphide content and large thicknesses. Prior to this work there were no known nickel occurrences in this area and as such this is a completely new discovery in an area of very limited rock exposure and good proximity to infrastructure.

Westhaven has started preliminary level metallurgy testing to help determine the mineralogical, comminution and metallurgical properties of the various mineralized zones. The Company's focus is to continue exploring the nickel-cobalt mineralization and determine the size potential of the numerous mineralized areas.
