Ecolab Inc., the global leader in water, hygiene and energy technologies
and services, has committed $1.5 million through the Ecolab Foundation
to the Project WET Foundation, a nonprofit water resources education
organization dedicated to preparing the next generation of responsible
water stewards. The funds will help the Project WET Foundation reach
more than two million people with water conservation and hygiene
education by 2017.
The support is part of Ecolab’s newly launched Solutions for Life
program, which enhances the company’s work to conserve water and improve
hygiene around the world through new partnerships, global philanthropy
and employee volunteerism.
“To improve hygiene practices and use water more carefully in our
communities, we need to raise awareness and provide practical training,”
said Kris Taylor, Ecolab vice president of Community Relations. “Ecolab
protects people and vital resources through our work with our customers
around the world. By supporting the Project WET Foundation’s programs,
we also hope to inspire positive change in people’s daily lives.”
Ecolab’s partnership with the Project WET Foundation focuses on water
conservation and the role that water plays in maintaining good health
through proper hygiene. Initial program emphasis will focus on four
markets: St. Paul, Minn.; Shanghai, China; Mexico City, Mexico; and
Monheim, Germany.
“Thanks to Ecolab’s generous commitment, the Project WET Foundation’s
effective, engaging water education methods will reach not only children
and youth in the four targeted cities, but also engage Ecolab employees
worldwide,” said Dennis L. Nelson, Project WET Foundation president and
chief executive officer. “By 2017, some two million more people will be
empowered to conserve water and make the world a healthier place.”
The $1.5 million grant announced today will:
-
Support development of a suite of hands-on water education materials
focused on making the world cleaner, safer and healthier while
promoting local action
-
Empower local communities by implementing a suite of digital and print
materials for children through a network of school and community
educators in the target markets, focusing on education that leads to
relevant action on hygiene and conservation issues
-
Promote community engagement by providing Ecolab employees with
resources and tools they can use to educate young people in their
communities to help make a positive impact on the health and
well-being of the people and places where they live and work
Since its inception in 1986, the Ecolab Foundation has contributed more
than $70 million to organizations and programs focused on youth and
education, civic and community development, arts and culture, and the
environment and conservation. In 2013, Ecolab Foundation and corporate
giving totaled nearly $10 million.
