Sears Great Canadian Chill is Stopping Kids Cancer Cold

SRSCQ

Toronto Takes the Plunge to #EndKidsCancer

TORONTO, Feb. 11, 2015 /CNW/ - This Family Day, the Sears Great Canadian Chill returns to the heart of the city to raise money for the fight against childhood cancer. Brave Chillers will jump into a custom-built Chill pool in the middle of Yonge-Dundas Square. Proceeds raised from The Chill will be collected by the Sears Canada Charitable Foundation and will be allocated to the Sears Cancer Clinic at The Hospital for Sick Children, a world-renowned treatment centre for children with cancer.

"Many of us have a friend or family member who has been affected by cancer, and while SickKids has led outstanding progress in childhood cancer, there is still a lot of work to do," said Seanna Dempsey, Vice President, Corporate Partnerships, SickKids Foundation. "We are grateful to Sears Canada for its continued support as it allows us to continue providing world-leading care to our patients and their families."

The Toronto Chill has become a tradition that brings people together to celebrate Family Day at Yonge-Dundas Square. Surrounding the urban polar bear dip will be a winter festival with refreshments, live entertainment and activities for the whole family. Prizes will be given out to top fundraisers.

"The Sears Great Canadian Chill is an invigorating way to enjoy Family Day and celebrate winter in a meaningful way," said Ron Boire, President and CEO, Sears Canada Inc. "It is rewarding to see the Toronto community, many of whom are Sears customers and associates, raise money and brave the icy waters in support of the fight against childhood cancer."

Participants can log on to www.TheChill.ca or call 1.888.93.CHILL to register for the urban polar bear dip individually or as a team. Personalized profiles will be created, complete with fundraising tools and helpful hints for teams to reach fundraising goals. Friends and family are encouraged to gather at Yonge-Dundas Square to cheer the Chillers on and participate in the festivities. Donations to the event and to Chillers can be made at www.TheChill.ca.
