TROY, MI--(Marketwired - Oct 1, 2015) - Attracting and retaining skilled and technically qualified manufacturing talent is one of the most pressing needs of manufacturers today. Kelly Services® (NASDAQ: KELYA) (NASDAQ: KELYB), a proud sponsor of Manufacturing Day, which is recognized on October 2, understands this and partners with manufacturers to identify strategies that will deliver that talent. The company will host a webinar on October 15, 2015 to share findings from its research, along with additional insights on what today's manufacturing workforce looks for in an employer.
The webinar will feature a presentation by Toyota representatives from the company's Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) Program. This innovative program serves as a long-term solution for closing the skills gap by training, developing and retaining talent for advanced manufacturing jobs.
"We are delighted that Toyota has agreed to participate in our webinar to share the details of the AMT program and how it can be adopted by other manufacturers," said Gabrielle Caputo, director and COE of Kelly's Manufacturing and Logistics products. "One of the major challenges that manufacturing organizations face is how to develop skilled talent from within through training and internship programs, as too often these skilled manufacturing jobs are going unfilled. Toyota's groundbreaking program offers a proven process that can assist companies in meeting this challenge."
The webinar -- titled "Building Manufacturing Talent: How to Close the Manufacturing Talent Gap and the Toyota AMT Program" -- will take place at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, October 15. To register, please go to https://goto.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1077968.
Filling the skills gap
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, today's manufacturing industry faces an employee turnover rate of 23%. This skills gap, combined with the high turnover rate, is negatively impacting the bottom line for many manufacturers through higher overtime costs, less productivity and reduced efficiency.
For 50 years, Kelly Services has helped fill the skills gap for its clients by recruiting and placing mechanical, electrical, electronic, manufacturing and industrial engineers in most major industries. These include aerospace, automotive, chemical/petrochemical, electronics, food/beverage, heavy manufacturing, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, packaging, power, and semiconductors.
"Kelly Services has established itself as one of the one of the largest employers of engineers in North America," said Joe Lampinen, CMfgE, Director of Kelly's Engineering Center of Excellence. "We have nearly 7,000 engineering professionals engaged in providing mission-critical work for our clients. In addition, our Engineering COE offers strategic market intelligence on the engineering workforce and thought leadership on talent acquisition and recruiting practices."
Inspiring manufacturers
Kelly Services is proud to be a founding sponsor of Manufacturing Day, a nationwide event dedicated to "inspiring tomorrow's manufacturer today." U.S. manufacturers are planning more than 2,000 Manufacturing Day events to demonstrate the high-tech careers and compelling opportunities that exist in manufacturing. Held annually on the first Friday of October, Manufacturing Day has grown rapidly since 2012 as a grassroots movement for manufacturers to promote their work and show the contributions they bring to their communities.
"Manufacturing Day is an excellent occasion to focus on the skilled labor shortage that manufacturers face, to connect with younger generations, and to shed light on the opportunities the industry holds for engineers and other top talent," said Caputo.
