Global Superstar and Biggest Selling Female Artist of All-Time Mariah Carey Set to Rock Macau Along With Asia's King of Dance Aaron Kwok and Kpop Sensation SISTAR as Studio City Kicks off Star-studded Grand Opening Extravaganza

MLCO

MACAU, Oct. 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Studio City, the highly anticipated USD3.2 billion Hollywood-inspired integrated resort in Macau, today unveiled that its October 27 2015 party-of-the-century grand opening will be headlined by not one, but three global musical superstars.

The celebratory concert, immediately following the new resort’s glamorous Red Carpet Walk, will feature legendary diva Mariah Carey, Asia’s King of Dance Aaron Kwok and KPop sensations SISTAR, who will take the stage to entertain VIPs, the media and special guests at the state-of-the-art new Studio City Event Center.

“The opening of Studio City is a global event which is going to put a spotlight on Macau and create waves across the region, so what better way to kick off the show than by bringing in three of the world’s top musical stars?” said Studio City President Mr. JD Clayton.

“We couldn’t have imagined a better line-up to WOW our guests at the Grand Opening Show than Mariah Carey, Aaron Kwok and SISTAR. We believe that their performances will raise the bar even further than this fabulous new integrated entertainment complex and its many attractions have already done. Studio City is truly a destination for international stars and spectacle, and on October 27th we will raise the curtains and show the world what we mean by Asia’s Entertainment Capital.”

Mariah Carey is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress who has repeatedly made musical history. Thanks to her dazzling persona and five-octave vocal range, Ms Carey has sold more than 200 million records worldwide in a career that has spanned 25 years. She has won a vast collection of awards and records, including having the longest-running number-one song in US chart history and the most number one hits of any artist.

“Being part of this glamorous show and the opening of this amazing movie-themed entertainment resort is truly thrilling. I enjoy a very strong fan base in Asia, particularly China, so this gives me an opportunity to thank them in a very special way and become a part of history in the making at the same time,” said Mariah Carey.

For more than 20 years, Asia’s King of Dance Aaron Kwok has thrilled his fans with his dancing, singing and acting. Kwok started his career as a dancer, where he was heavily influenced by Michael Jackson, before breaking onto the music scene to become one of Asia’s top pop stars. He has performed more than 200 sell-out concerts all over the world and now brings his star-power to Studio City. A man of many talents, Mr Kwok has also won the coveted Golden Horse Best Actor award twice.

“What better way to celebrate my birthday than on a world-class stage alongside megastars like Mariah and one of the most quintessential girl bands in Korea, SISTAR, as part of the opening mega-performance at this spectacular Hollywood-themed entertainment resort? This birthday at Studio City will definitely go down as one of my most memorable, as I’m sure it will for all of those who have been part of bringing this fabulous project to life,” said Aaron Kwok.

K-Pop girl band SISTAR have released hit after hit in their native South Korea and the rest of Asia. The combined star power of Hyolyn, Soyu, Dasom and Bora led to their first hit in 2010. Since then, the eye-catching foursome has released some boundary-pushing videos to go with their catchy sound; while their reality show “Sistar’s Showtime” has been a big hit in South Korea.

The girls said: “We’ve heard so much about Studio City and to take part in the opening celebrations is a dream come true for the four of us. We can’t wait to explore Studio City’s many attractions and to meet with all of our fans in Macau and from around the world too!”

Asia’s Entertainment Capital

These three top performers are just some of the stars who will light up Studio City.

The prestigious opening celebrations will also feature the world premiere of “The Audition”, starring legends of Hollywood, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Academy-award winning director Martin Scorsese. The film – Macau’s first Hollywood-produced short-movie – is set around a Studio City storyline and represents the very first time these iconic Hollywood stars have all worked together.

“The Audition” was produced by acclaimed Hollywood producer Brett Ratner, the director of movie blockbusters including “Red Dragon”, ‘‘X-Men: The Last Stand”, “Hercules” and the “Rush Hour” film franchise.

Envisioned by Mr. Lawrence Ho, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Crown Entertainment, Studio City is a thrilling new cinematically-themed entertainment and leisure destination in Macau that is set to become Asia’s Entertainment Capital and take Macau’s entertainment destination proposition to unprecedented new levels.

Studio City is located on Cotai, Macau, close to the Lotus Bridge immigration point which connects with Hengqin Island, and a future station-point for the Macau Light Rapid Transit.
