Fairfax India Holdings Corporation (TSX:FIH.U) announces net earnings of $18.3 million in the third quarter of 2015 ($0.17 net earnings per basic share) primarily due to unrealized gains on marketable securities. Book value per basic share decreased slightly to $9.36 at September 30, 2015 due primarily to unrealized foreign currency translation losses.
Highlights in the third quarter of 2015 included the following:
- On July 13, 2015 the company announced an open offer to acquire up to approximately 26% of the outstanding shares of India Infoline Limited for an aggregate consideration of approximately $250 million (at current exchange rates) which is expected to be completed later in 2015.
- On August 19, 2015 the company acquired an initial 73.6% of National Collateral Management Services Limited and subsequently acquired an additional 14.5% to close the third quarter at 88.1% ownership for a total investment of approximately $148 million.
- At September 30, 2015, common shareholders' equity was $998.9 million.
There were 106,678,879 weighted average shares outstanding during the third quarter of 2015. At September 30, 2015 there were 76,678,879 subordinate voting shares outstanding in addition to 30,000,000 multiple voting shares outstanding for a total of 106,678,879 common shares effectively outstanding.
