Discovery Air Defence Participates in Dissimilar Air Combat Training Exercise in Canary Islands

Canada NewsWire

MONTREAL, April 14, 2016 /CNW/ - Discovery Air Defence Services Inc. ("DA Defence"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Discovery Air Inc., recently deployed aircraft from Wittmundhafen, Germany to participate in the annual Dissimilar Air Combat Training ("DACT") exercise hosted by the Spanish Air Force at Gando Air Base, Canary Islands.

Flying embedded with German Air Force Eurofighter squadrons, DA Defence A-4N Skyhawks joined units on exercise for air combat training with different fighter aircraft, including F-16, F-18 and Mirage 2000. Unlike training with similar aircraft, DACT allows pilots to experience the flight profiles, characteristics and presentations of different combat aircraft. DA Defence's A-4N Skyhawks presented a new challenge for all exercise participants. It also demonstrated DA Defence's abilities to partake in multinational large force exercises.

"We brought very positive training challenges for all participants at DACT 2016," said Rolf Brandt, Senior Program Manager – German Operations. "As dedicated Red Air aggressors, the deployment of our highly agile A-4N Skyhawks brought a new kind of threat for the participants to refine their combat skills and tactics."

DA Defence began its contracted airborne training services for the German Armed Forces in January 2015 and is delivering critical air combat training and combat support for the German military at home and on deployment abroad.

DA Defence and its U.S. subsidiary, Top Aces Corp., have the world's largest privately-held, operating fleet of combat aircraft. The training provided supports the operational readiness of both current and future generation fighter aircraft.
