Worst Performing Industries For October 17, 2016

The Dow fell 0.12 percent to 18,117.05, while the NASDAQ composite index slipped 0.08 percent to 5,210.28. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index declined 0.11 percent to 2,130.63.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Publishing - Books: This industry slipped 5.8 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Pearson PLC (ADR) (NYSE: PSO), which fell 8.6 percent. Pearson shares have dropped 45.29 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 4.88 percent in the same period.
  • Home Furnishing Stores: This industry declined 1.5 percent by 11:00 am with Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc (NYSE: RH) moving down 3 percent. Restoration Hardware shares have dropped 70.43 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 4.88 percent in the same period.
  • Diversified Computer Systems: This industry fell 1.3 percent by 11:00 am ET. HP Inc (NYSE: HPQ) shares dropped 1.6 percent in today's trading. HP’s PEG ratio is 4.79.
  • Drug Stores: The industry dropped 1 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was China Jo-Jo Drugstores Inc (NASDAQ: CJJD), which declined 5.4 percent.
