MONTREAL, June 2, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Last night, Birks hosted an exclusive soirée at Montreal's Ritz-Carlton to celebrate the talent and accomplishments of Quebec artists in anticipation of  the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Gala (GGPAA) in Ottawa, of which Birks is the Presenting Sponsor. The special dinner was held to honour the Quebec talent that has been recognized at the GGPAA over the years. Past laureates, distinguished by their remarkable careers and many outstanding accomplishments were in attendance including: Michel Marc Bouchard (GGPAA 1993), Rock Demers (GGPAA 1998), Jean André Élie (Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award 2011), Paul-André Fortier (GGPAA 2012), Margie Gillis (GGPAA 2011), Suzanne Lebeau (GGPAA 2006), Jeanne Renaud (GGPAA 1995) and Joseph Rouleau (GGPAA 2004).

The 2017 recipients will be honoured at several events throughout the year, culminating with the June 29th Gala at the National Arts Center. This year's laureates are:

  • Jean Beaudin – Film and television director and screenwriter
  • Michael J. Fox, O.C. – Actor, writer, producer and humanitarian
  • Brigitte Haentjens – Theatre director and artistic director
  • Martin Short, C.M. – Actor, writer and producer
  • Yves Sioui Durand – Writer, theatre and film director, actor and producer
  • William H. Loewen, C.M. will receive the Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts
  • Michael Bublé will receive the National Arts Centre Award which recognizes exceptional achievement over the past performance year.
