NORTH TONAWNDA, N.Y., Oct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Taylor Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ SmallCap:
"TAYD") announced today that social media giant Facebook has leased all 436,000 square feet of office space, totaling 33 floors,
at the 181 Fremont Tower in San Francisco. This new tower is arguably the most earth-quake
resilient tall building on the West Coast of the U.S., and utilizes Taylor Devices' dampers as a primary part of its seismic
protection system.
"Facebook's recent $35 million lease, the largest office lease in San
Francisco in the last three years, is proof positive that sophisticated tenants are now willing to pay a premium for
buildings with superior seismic protection," stated Douglas P. Taylor, President of Taylor
Devices. He continued, "The new building uses 32 of our seismic dampers, rated at 225 tons of absorption force each; every one of
them weighs as much as a compact automobile. The structural engineers that designed 181 Freemont created a clever high-strength
exoskeleton that incorporated our dampers at the joints of the building's frame to provide for wind and seismic protection. It is
very satisfying to know that a building that has been specifically constructed to achieve immediate re-occupancy after a 1 in 475
year earthquake is relying on our technology to accomplish that result."
He continued, "Recently, the Torre Mayor building in Mexico City, which is also protected
with our dampers, came through a catastrophic quake with no structural damage, allowing for immediate re-occupancy and minimal
downtime for the businesses located there." He concluded, "There are now more than 650 buildings, bridges and other major
structures worldwide that are using Taylor Devices' dampers for seismic or wind protection."
The 181 Freemont Tower building is nearing completion and will be the third tallest building in San
Francisco when completed, at 802 feet. The building uses a resilience-based design approach to exceed California Building
Code mandated earthquake performance objectives and has earned a Gold rating as outlined in the REDi™ Rating System.
