Vancouver, British Columbia (FSCwire) - CIBT Education Group Inc.
(TSX:MBA, OTCQX International: MBAIF) (“CIBT”) is pleased to report that it has commenced development
of its future e-commerce platform called GECliving.com (“GEC Living”). GEC Living is an on-line web portal and mobile
application supporting Apple and Android platforms.
GEC Living will be a centralized portal that will allow a selected group of suppliers to offer their
services to students living at CIBT-managed properties, enrolled in CIBT’s schools or enrolled with its partner schools.
Services offered to students could include:
- Airport pickup upon arrival in Vancouver, and departure car service
- GEC® housing reservation and bookings or homestay referral services
- Tutoring services during their study in Vancouver
- Insurance purchases – medical and life insurance
- Cell phone plans and long distance cards
- Weekend excursion packages (Whistler, Blackcomb, Banff tours etc.)
- Airplane ticket purchases (international students purchase an average of 4 to 6 tickets per year)
- Meal and grocery delivery services
- Consulting services such as school recommendations, immigration consultants, legal services, accountants and medical
services
- Car and bike rental for weekend activities
- Online shopping of all daily essentials, furniture, appliances, clothing, books and supplies etc.
- Promotional activities for special events and discount sales by various department stores
For example, our education subsidiaries, Sprott Shaw College (since 1903), Sprott Shaw Language College, VIC
Vancouver International College and CIBT Business Schools in Asia enroll over 15,000 students annually. Taken into account
the students living at CIBT’s managed properties and students enrolled in its corporate owned and partner schools, the volume and
size of this opted-in market is unique and substantial.
“Given the importance of staying up to date on technology trends, and the difficulty faced by students in accessing
everyday living needs, we have initiated this application as a one stop shop tool to connect various suppliers of products with
our loyal base of 15,000 plus students,” said Toby Chu, CEO and Chairman of CIBT Education Group. “As a long time education
services provider and now a growing student housing player in British Columbia, we have built a strong database of customers,
suppliers and partners. This tool serves as a way to not only make life easier for a student looking to access various
necessities with their mobile device but also as a means of generating high margin ancillary revenue for our shareholders.
“Management believes the potential to offer daily living services to these students is tremendous,” continued Toby
Chu. “Students arriving in Vancouver, Canada from out of country (international) and out-of-town (domestic) need assistance to
familiarize themselves with their new city. Arriving in a new city can be a traumatic experience, especially for
international students coming from abroad. GEC Living.com will provide all sorts of services from landing in Vancouver, to
excursion services during the weekends, meal ordering every day and tutoring services throughout their stay while studying in
Vancouver. Parents will feel better knowing their children are in good hands, and our suppliers will earn additional
businesses from a group of opted-in and loyal customers.”
There are many essential services needed by students from abroad and across Canada. Suppliers cooperating with GEC
Living will provide group discounts to CIBT’s opted-in clients. Students and parents may subscribe and pre-pay these
services on-line and while they are abroad. All transactions will be directed through the GEC Living portal and is expected
to create significant sales revenue to GEC Living. This is a win-win-win arrangement for students, suppliers and CIBT
shareholders.
