Mark Tepper Law Firm Files Claim for Retired Couple Against UBS

UBS

PR Newswire

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Jan. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mark A. Tepper law firm has filed claim against UBS (NYSE: UBS) on behalf of a retired school teacher and her husband.

The claim, filed with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), seeks recovery for unsuitable recommendations and other violations of FINRA Rules.

The claim contends that a UBS broker purchased highly leveraged oil and gas stocks and development stage biotech which were unsuitable for a retired couple because of the high risk. Claimants expressed dissatisfaction, yet the broker continued exercising discretion without written authority, making unsuitable purchases, the claim alleges. After big losses, when questioned about the mishandling of the couple's retirement accounts, the claim alleges that the UBS broker said he would be fired if the couple complained to UBS.

The broker asked the couple to postpone their complaint and he would help them successfully recover their losses, the claim alleges.

The claim further alleges that the broker wrote in a text message, "I am going to clean up my mess and make good by you."

Despite "indications of wrongdoing" (red flags), [UBS] failed to supervise the activities of its broker in its customers' accounts, the claim alleges.
