BOSTON and WELLESLEY, Mass., March 5,
2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The YMCA of Greater Boston and Sun Life Financial U.S. are
pleased to announce that Kathy deCastro, head of human resources at Sun Life Financial U.S., is a new member of the YMCA of
Greater Boston General Board.
deCastro brings more than 20 years of experience implementing innovative and strategic talent practices and programs. As head
of human resources at Sun Life, she oversees attraction, engagement, development, and retention of the industry's top talent for
the U.S. and international business. Previously, she worked as senior vice president and chief talent officer at The Hartford, where she led various talent practices for the organization. She has held senior vice president
and vice president roles in human resources, including personal and commercial markets and enterprise functions. She holds a
bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Saint Joseph and a master's degree in
industrial/organizational psychology from the University of New Haven.
"We are thrilled for Kathy to join our dedicated team of passionate professionals who care so deeply about helping our
neighbors in the Greater Boston community," said YMCA of Greater Boston President and CEO
James Morton. "We look forward to strategizing and seeing what lies ahead for our organization
this year."
Passionate about service, deCastro is an active volunteer for multiple nonprofit organizations with a focus on autism
awareness and fundraising. She served as human resources operating officer for The Option Institute & Autism Treatment Center
of America and currently serves as an advisor to performing arts theaters interested in bringing sensory friendly performances to
local communities. deCastro is also passionate about diabetes prevention, a cause close to her heart.
"Sun Life has a long history of supporting the YMCA of Greater Boston through youth programs
and diabetes education, so I'm excited to get more involved," said deCastro. "As someone with a family history of diabetes I am
passionate about awareness and prevention. I am greatly looking forward to working with the board and seeing how else we can
bring more supportive and innovative programming to the Greater Boston community."
Sun Life, partnered with the Boston Celtics, has long been a supporter of the YMCA of Greater
Boston and diabetes awareness. Each year they hold the annual youth Fit to Win program, which gets kids excited about fitness
and nutrition, and the November #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes campaign, which supports the YMCA of Greater Boston's
Diabetes Prevention Program, an educational program that helps at-risk adults learn about health, nutrition, and lifestyle habits
to prevent type 2 diabetes.
YMCA of Greater Boston board members commit to serving the organization over the course of
three years. As a board member, deCastro will help to govern and lead the more than 160-year-old institution and ensure that the
Y delivers on its mission to strengthen the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social
