GE Transportation to Showcase Emissions-Reducing Marine Engine at 2018 International WorkBoat Show

GE’s Marine Solutions diesel engine reduces key emissions by 70 percent without compromising fuel efficiency

(NYSE:GE) – GE Transportation announced today that it will showcase its industry leading, emissions-reducing marine solutions at the 2018 International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans. Among the solutions on display will be GE Transportation’s Marine L250/V250 series diesel engines, which reduce key emissions by more than 70 percent without compromising fuel efficiency or causing more maintenance.

“We are incredibly proud of our breakthrough technology, which is already transforming the marine industry by delivering high performance and lower emissions,” said Tammy Gromacki, general manager of GE Transportation’s global marine business. “Our marine engines are helping solve our customers’ biggest challenges by reliably powering marine equipment in challenging environments. We strive to make our customers’ operations more reliable and efficient, and these new engines do both.”

The engines meet the most stringent emissions requirements, including IMO Tier III and the U.S. EPA Tier IV standards. Additionally, eliminating the use of urea-based selective catalytic reduction aftertreatment saves customers up to 75 percent of cargo and tank space. It also makes the engine less complex to install and operate by eliminating the time, hassle and cost associated with handling urea and maintaining hardware.

The industry is already responding positively to the advanced technology. Earlier in 2018, GE Transportation signed an agreement with Danish channel partner, VMS Group, to provide two 8L250MDC and two 12V250MDC marine engines, tools and spare parts for the world’s foremost expedition ship. The engine is also being used by Harley Marine Services on the Earl W. Redd, enabling the vessel to become the first EPA Tier IV-compliant tractor tugboat.
