DENVER, Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- DaVita Kidney Care, a division of DaVita Inc. (NYSE: DVA), a leading provider
of kidney care services in the United States, continued to show its longstanding commitment
to being a community first, company second throughout 2018 with acts of service and various charitable donations in the local
communities it serves.
"We are proud of our teammates' commitment to and engagement in their communities," said Jim
Greenwood, Wisdom vice president. "Our teammates truly embody what it means to care for our patients, care for each other
and care for our world."
Each year, DaVita teammates reaffirm their commitment to their neighborhoods through service projects, outreach initiatives,
charitable contributions and a continued focus on sustainability. This year teammates took part in several of the company's
community-focused programs, including: DaVita Way of Giving, Village Service Days and the DaVita Village Network.
Teammates continued their long tradition of supporting local communities in 2018 by directing charitable contributions across
the nation through the DaVita Way of Giving program. More than 2,100 dialysis centers participated in the program and directed
donations of more than $2.1 million to nonprofits across the country.
In addition, more than 9,000 teammates generously volunteered their time and energy to local communities in the U.S. through
the Village Service Days program. During Village Service Days, teammates have the opportunity to volunteer with a local nonprofit
to benefit the broader community. Some nonprofit organizations include those associated with education, care of the environment,
animal welfare and disability services, among others. This year, teammates from 979 dialysis centers volunteered a total 25,360
hours to help their neighborhoods.
Additionally, more than 800 dialysis centers have committed to participate in both a Village Service Day and DaVita Way of
Giving, contributing to their local communities physically and financially.
Teammates also are given the opportunity to donate funds through voluntary payroll deductions or to make a one-time donation
to support the DaVita Village Network. The DaVita Village Network was established to help teammates, or their immediate families,
with financial assistance during a time of crisis such as natural disasters, medical expenses arising from acute medical needs,
funeral expenses and other financial hardships, such as deployment.
Recently, DaVita teammates have given back to those affected by Hurricane Florence, Hurricane Michael and the wildfires in
California. During these natural disasters, teammates in neighboring centers provided
much-needed basic supplies to those in the affected areas. In 2018, more than $272,000 was
contributed through the DaVita Village Network and helped more than 220 teammates experiencing hardship directly related to these
natural disasters.
