Thunderstruck Resources (AWE) has completed the construction of an access road to its Liwa Creek property in Fiji ahead of a maiden drill program.
Located to the southern part of Fiji’s largest island, Viti Levu, the property forms part of a larger 148-square-kilometre land package and sits 50 kilometres south of the Vatukoula gold mine, which has to date produced 7 million ounces of gold.
The Vancouver-based mineral exploration company will mobilise its drilling equipment next week, which arrived from overseas in two sea containers in early August.
Liwa Creek hosts five high-grade gold prospects that have been identified within a northeast-southwest trending structural corridor that extends for roughly three kilometres.
The program will be the first time that the Liwa Creek prospect has been drill tested, and follows on from earlier surface sampling work that returned up to 55 grams per tonne of gold and 1,205 grams per tonne of silver.
Bryce Bradley, CEO of Thunderstruck Resources, said she is pleased to have relocated to Fiji to oversee the next phase of the company's life cycle.
"The team has been working hard to clear over 15 kilometres of access roads to construct drill pads and get the drills to site, meaning news flow will be plentiful in the lead-up to the new year and beyond," she added.
Bryce received approval to enter Fiji on October 17 and is currently completing a 14-day COVID-19 quarantine period, which is scheduled to end on October 31.
In support of the Thunderstruck's expanded exploration efforts, Prinas Chand - a Fijian National with in-country experience managing a range of activities - has been appointed to the company's exploration team.
"We have always been of the mindset that having local Fijian geologists, like Ms. Chand, will be key to making new in-country discoveries and in turn the prolonged success of the company," Bryce continued.
