Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) have combined to form Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).

The new company creates the first single-line railway linking Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

The combined company will consists of nearly 20,000 miles of rail while employing almost 20,000 people.

This new company makes it the smallest of six U.S. Class 1 railroads by revenue but with a more competitive network.

The full integration of CP and KCS is expected to take three years.

CPKC plans to make more than $275 million in capital investments in new infrastructure over the next three years.

Funds will be allocated to improve rail safety and the capacity of the core north-south CPKC main line between Louisiana and the U.S. Upper Midwest.

The creation of CPKC is also expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.9 million tons over the next five years due to improved operational efficiencies and the diversion of 64,000 trucks to rail.

Canadian Pacific is a transcontinental railway in Canada and the U.S.

Some of its direct links go to major ports on the west and east coasts, providing North American with access to key markets in every corner of the globe.
