Shopify (TSX:SHOP) has expanded its partnership with Avalara, a cloud-based tax compliance automation provider for businesses.
In a statement, the company said that through the expanded partnership, Shopify merchants will be able to manage and automate global tax compliance with Avalara.
“With Avalara joining as a Shopify Tax Platform Partner, we are able to address the unique compliance requirements of businesses – from small businesses to enterprise companies – globally,” Bobby Morrison, chief revenue officer at Shopify, said in a statement. “Together, Avalara and Shopify are building on the value we’ve been bringing to Shopify Plus customers for nearly a decade to all Shopify customers, enabling them to transact, comply, and scale globally with confidence.”
Avalara has been providing tax calculation services for Shopify Plus customers since 2015 and has been powering tax calculations, nexus tracking and tax return filing for Shopify since 2022.
Through Shopify’s Tax Partner Platform, Avalara can now provide all Shopify customers with its global tax compliance requirements including sales tax, value-added tax, exemption certificate management and more.
Avalara provides tax compliance for more than 41,000 business and government customers in more than 75 countries.
With headquarters in Ottawa, Shopify is a global commerce company that provides platforms and services that are engineered and deliver a shopping experience for consumers online and in-store.
Shares of Shopify Inc. (TSX:SHOP) are down 0.47 per cent to C$80.20 as of 11:23 am ET.
