Air Canada (TSX:AC) will institute changes to its Basic and Comfort fares in January to better align with other Canadian carriers.
Basic fare baggage and seating
As of January 3, 2025, Basic fare passengers for North America and Sun routes will need to check in any large bags and pay a fee of C$35 for the first bag and C$50 for the second. Conditions tied to the new rule include:
- An exception for mobility aids, medical devices and child strollers.
- Status members, Star Alliance Gold and Aeroplan premium credit cardholders, who continue to be entitled to one carry-on bag.
- Passengers arriving at the boarding gate with items beyond the scope of carry-on policy, who will be asked to check the item in for a fee of C$65.
As of January 21, Basic fare passengers will also need to pay a fee to change their automatically assigned seat. This change doesn’t impact Air Canada’s existing policy to seat families and travelling companions together.
Comfort fare baggage
As of January 3, 2025, Air Canada will increase the checked baggage allowance for Comfort fare passengers from one to two for all destinations.
