Charts that work

KENWOOD, California -- There are stock charts these days that work: gold, silver, royalties.

Seasoned investors in natural resources identified their top three-month charts. The coveted charts are, in the words of one technical comedian, low on the left-hand side and high on the right.

The great ones, as in profitable, include First Majestic Silver (TSX: T.FR, Stock Forum), Endeavour Silver (TSX: T.EDR, Stock Forum and EXK, Stock Forum), Great Quest Metals (TSX: V.GQ, Stock Forum), Xtra-Gold Resources (XTGR, Stock Forum), Virginia Gold Mines (TSX: T.VGQ, Stock Forum) and Great Basin Gold (TSX: T.GBG, Stock Forum and GBG, Stock Forum). Several of the charts are presented in this article. There is no common denominator. They are producers and prospectors, plus a royalty accumulator, in Mexico, Ghana, Canada, Mali, South Africa and Nevada.

We present charts as footnote to what was a miserable month of June for natural resources equities. These are the ones that sidestepped the carnage.

"Everyone from Doug Casey to the biggest fund managers reminds me of this all the time."

We paid Mr. Holmes a visit in Northern California on Wednesday. I have known him since 1997. (Please see photo here - Thom Calandra™.)

My favorite: Endeavour SilverEndeavour Silver, a producer and prospector of silver (and increasingly, gold), in Guanajuato and Durango, Mexico. (We here at Ticker Trax have researched the company and owned it "in size" for more than 15 months. We do not own or research First Majestic.)

You can see all of the charts at Stockhouse.com. Just enter a ticker, such as GQ for Mali's Great QuestGreat Quest.

Click to enlargeBy the way, I am not a technician when it comes to charting. I rarely make an investment decision based on charts. But I see how some investors find them useful. My style is what they call, or used to call, "deep value." As in hopeless value: uranium right now, geothermal perhaps, molybdenum certainly.

The uranium, geothermal, moly and other deep-value propositions are linked to our subscriber service Ticker Trax™, which is published by Stockhouse.
