TSX little changed in early trading on mixed earnings reports

TORONTO _ The Canadian dollar and North American stock indexes were showing little change early Thursday.

The loonie traded at 81.82 cents US, up 0.04 of a U.S. cent from Wednesday's close.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 0.83 points at 15,303.94, after dropping 41.67 points Wednesday

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 47.69 points at 17,990.58, the Nasdaq index fell 5.85 points to 5,029.32, and the S&P 500 declined 2.57 points to 2,105.39.

On the commodity markets, the June crude contract was up 91 cents at US$57.07 a barrel and the June gold contract rose 40 cents US$1,187.30 an ounce after the TSX opened.
