Gren Thomas' name and reputation commands respect the world over as a legendary mining prospector and major force in the landmark Diavik kimberlite pipe discovery in northern Saskatchewan back in 1991.
The Canadian Mining Hall of Famer's prospecting days date back to the 1960's when the Welsh immigrant made his way to Canada to make history in the diamond mining sector that would eventually dethrone De Beers as the controlling world leader in diamond production.
Thomas' latest venture, North Arrow Minerals (TSX: V.NAR, Stock Forum), is set to put the diamond space on its ear with the company's JV Qilalugaq deposit located in the Canada's northernmost territory of Nunavut.
Yellow diamonds are at the centre of all of Qilalugaq's hubbub. These diamonds are extremely rare, making up less than 0.1% of all diamonds and are highly prized due to that fact. An earlier 64-carat sample from Qilalugaq showed a full color range of yellow diamonds, from light yellow to fully saturated.
North Arrow has now shipped another 500+ carat sample for processing in Thunder Bay and then final processing at Stornoway's North Vancouver lab, before being shipped to Antwerp for valuation. Once the results are in, sometime in Q1 2015, North Arrow may find itself in the cross-hairs of both major producers and the investment community.
Tommy Humphreys of CEO.ca sat down with Gren Thomas recently to get in-depth details on the man, his ventures and future prospects. You can find this incredibly informative piece here.
North Arrow Minerals was in the news recently when the company announced the identification of new targets at the Pikoo Diamond Project a little over a week ago.
Currently there are 49.8m outstanding shares with a market cap of $28.9 million.
