MONTERREY, Mexico, Dec. 5, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 6.9% in November 2013, as compared to November 2012. Domestic traffic increased 7.9%, and international traffic increased 0.4%.
Of total November traffic, 97.9% was commercial aviation and 2.1% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in eleven airports in November, with the most noteworthy increases in Culiacán (+20.6%), Monterrey (+4.7%), Reynosa (+33.0%), and Torreón (+29.4%). Culiacán increased traffic on the Tijuana and Mexico City routes. Monterrey increased traffic on the Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Toluca routes. Reynosa and Torreón increased traffic on their Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Cancún routes. Domestic traffic decreased in Zacatecas (-12.5%), as a result of lower general aviation traffic and a reduction in Tijuana traffic, and also in Zihuatanejo (-5.4%), as a result of a reduction in Mexico City traffic. In November, Volaris opened the San Luis Potosí – Tijuana route.
International traffic increased most significantly in Zihuatanejo (+24.0%), as a result of increases in traffic to Los Angeles and Calgary; in Zacatecas (+38.0%) as a result of increases in traffic to Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas; and in Tampico (+18.0%), as a result of increases on the Houston route. The most significant reduction was in Monterrey (-4.4%), as a result of lower traffic on the Las Vegas, San Antonio, Havana, Dallas, and San José, Costa Rica routes. In November, Aeromar started operating the San Luis Potosí – McAllen, Texas route.
The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in November decreased 7.7% as compared to the same month of last year. The number of domestic operations decreased 8.1% and international operations decreased 4.8%.
