SEATTLE, Jan. 9, 2014 /CNW/ - (NASDAQ: AMZN) - Amazon today announced a
record-setting year for Marketplace Sellers with businesses of all
sizes selling on Amazon. In 2013, Marketplace Sellers on Amazon sold
more than a billion units worldwide, cumulatively worth tens of
billions of dollars. Marketplace Sellers around the world also
continued rapid adoption of Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), a service that
Marketplace Sellers can choose to have Amazon ship their products
directly to customers and offer Amazon Prime benefits, FREE Shipping,
simple exporting to customers around the world, easy returns for orders
placed on Amazon and great customer service. The number of active
Marketplace Sellers using the FBA service grew more than 65 per cent
year-over-year worldwide.
The Amazon Marketplace, which consists of more than 2 million
Marketplace Sellers of all sizes worldwide, experienced record growth
during the busy holiday selling season and Marketplace Sellers on
Amazon.ca celebrated the most successful holiday to date. Sales by
Marketplace Sellers on Amazon.ca more than doubled year-over-year this
holiday season.
"It has been an incredible year for Marketplace Sellers including
popular brands and businesses of all sizes selling on Amazon. Our
customers have told us they appreciate the hundreds of millions of
products listed by Marketplace Sellers that range from home and kitchen
items to a vast selection of electronics," said Peter Faricy, VP for
Amazon Marketplace. "Our goal every day is to make selling on Amazon as
easy as possible. Fulfillment by Amazon is a wonderful service as it
gives all Marketplace Sellers the option of warehousing their inventory
in our fulfillment centre network. It has been a game changer for
sellers because their items become eligible for Prime benefits, which
drives their sales and benefits consumers with additional Prime
selection."
"2013 was a banner year for ShopTronics. Our sales grew by more than 250
per cent year-over-year and Amazon.ca was a big part of our success,
especially during our busiest time of the year - the holidays," said
Deepak Jain, managing director of ShopTronics, based in Niagara Falls,
Ontario. "By working closely with Amazon.ca, we were able to promote
our products among the millions of loyal customers on Amazon.ca and
Amazon.com, offer incredible holiday promotions to shoppers and
leverage the FBA program to ensure our products were delivered to
customers in time for the holidays. The Amazon Marketplace makes it
easy for ShopTronics to focus on bringing new and exciting products to
our customers in Canada and around the world. With FBA, our inventory
is warehoused in the Amazon fulfillment centre network so we don't have
to invest time, money or resources in our own infrastructure - we know
Amazon has us covered."
"Amazon.ca is an incredibly important part of our overall business and
success especially during the holidays. Thanks in large part to
Amazon.ca, Cyber Monday was by far our busiest day of the year and
nearly half of our annual sales were generated in the fourth quarter of
2013," said Dave Chamberlain, Owner of Boardgames 4 Us Canada, based in
Calgary, Alberta. "We saw a significant jump in sales this year with
the introduction of the Toys category on Amazon.ca and by leveraging
the FBA program, we were able to easily scale up to address the
increased customer demand, while ensuring that customers' orders were
fulfilled quickly and efficiently."
