HOUSTON, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE: BHI) announced today that the international rig count for March 2014 was 1,345, up 4 from the 1,341 counted in February 2014, and up 77 from the 1,268 counted in March 2013. The international offshore rig count for March 2014 was 334, up 16 from the 318 counted in February 2014, and up 18 from the 316 counted in March 2013.
The average U.S. rig count for March 2014 was 1,803, up 34 from the 1,769 counted in February 2014, and up 47 from the 1,756 counted in March 2013. The average Canadian rig count for March 2014 was 449, down 177 from the 626 counted in February 2014, and down 15 from the 464 counted in March 2013.
The worldwide rig count for March 2014 was 3,597, down 139 from the 3,736 counted in February 2014, and up 109 from the 3,488 counted in March 2013.

About the Baker Hughes Rig Counts
The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
North American rig count data is scheduled to be released at noon central time on the last working day of each week.
