NORTH CANTON, Ohio, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Extending more self-service banking options to Peru's underbanked population, Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD) is adding more than 1000 new Opteva® automated teller machines (ATMs) to Banco de Credito del Peru's (BCP's) fleet. The ATMs will be deployed across Peru, including a variety of remote locations, to expand Peruvians' access to BCP's services. Diebold is also providing maintenance services to ensure greater availability of BCP's entire multivendor fleet of about 1,800 ATMs.
Founded in 1889, Lima-based BCP is Peru's largest and oldest financial institution. During the past two years, the bank's growing relationship with Diebold has steadily increased the number of Opteva ATMs in its fleet to nearly 1,700 terminals, including a variety of cash dispensers and advanced-function, deposit automation-enabled terminals. BCP's growing fleet, including more than 5,500 banking terminals managed by Diebold that enable foreign currency transactions, extends the bank's reach far beyond its 376 branch locations.
"We have a strong commitment to serve the entire country of Peru. And that means extending our self-service banking network to reach even the most remote consumers," said Arturo Johnson, Manager of Alternative Channels for BCP. "By expanding our network reach with Diebold's ATMs, we are making it easier for Peruvians to access advanced banking services and grow their relationship with our institution."
BCP has earned a number of awards for delivering innovative banking solutions to the people of Peru. Diebold's deposit automation technology adds to the bank's mission to serve the country's underbanked, many of whom have very limited access to branches. The technology enables BCP ATM users to make envelope-free cash and check deposits at the ATM, replacing traditional in-branch teller transactions with convenient self-service transactions.
"A great number of Peruvians are underbanked, with limited access to financial institution branches and banking options," said Octavio Marquez, vice president, Latin America division, Diebold. "By extending additional banking opportunities to those parties, as well as traditional customers, through its growing ATM network, BCP is placing banking resources within more people's reach. This is a great service to Peruvians."
To enhance the availability of BCP's ATMs, Diebold is managing first- and second-line maintenance for the bank's entire fleet. Diebold's software and services are able to support BCP's multivendor network, enhancing uptime and delivering better consumer experiences.
