NASDAQ Announces End-of-Month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date June 13, 2014

NEW YORK, June 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of June 13, 2014, short interest in 2,201 NASDAQ Global MarketSM securities totaled 8,236,831,389 shares compared with 7,887,728,402 shares in 2,196 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of May 30, 2014. The end-of-May short interest represents 5.15 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.61 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 604 securities on The NASDAQ Capital MarketSM totaled 654,804,201 shares at the end of the settlement date of June 13, 2014 compared with 647,341,129 shares in 609 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 5.08 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 5.26.

In summary, short interest in all 2,805 NASDAQ® securities totaled 8,891,635,590 shares at the June 13, 2014 settlement date, compared with 2,805 issues and 8,535,069,531 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 5.14 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.65 days for the previous reporting period.

The open short interest positions reported for each NASDAQ security reflect the total number of shares sold short by all broker/dealers regardless of their exchange affiliations. A short sale is generally understood to mean the sale of a security that the seller does not own or any sale that is consummated by the delivery of a security borrowed by or for the account of the seller.
