Hate to break it to you,  but based on the daily list of halted securities from the tsx website; ftp://ftp.cdnx.com/Securities/suspended_halted_securities.txt there are plenty of securities that have been halted for several days, up to a month even.

This news is not a surprise, but it has been anticipated for a long while now. Maybe you should ask the people that will be frantically buying this stock next week if it's a surprise to them.
