that there is no volume for them to cover.  After 6 days in the green they likely thought they could drive the price back down.  20 days to cover at today's volume.  Gold shorts must buy over the next two months to cover their positions so gold will go back up $200 to $300 before Gold shorts will have an appetite for further shorting.  Double wammy for AVN shorts.

It is a bit soon to call an end to the gold bear but so far it is looking quite promising...
