Apollos only major competitor is the larger Vi-Jon, based in St Louis. They are private & might be a possible acquirer of Apollo down the road. When major North American retailers want a private label personal care product & want one vendor, they call one of those two. The national brand companies (NB) aren't competitors. They are different animals .. Apollo & Vi-Jon need the NB companies who are the market makers. Without their marketing to establish and build product categories, there is no private label. KIK is to Clorox what Vi-Jon & Apollo are to personal care at P&G, Unilever, L'oreal, J&J. There is sometimes a little overlap but the things that it takes to excel as a PL company are different than a NB. Few, if any, do both of those businesses well though they have tried. Most fail. It's hard to compare them and not sure that it's helpful to us. Clorox worries a lot more about Reckitt & SC Johnson than about Vi-Jon or Apollo.
