Today's Financial Post
From the arts critic at the Financial Post
They came, they sang, they conquered.
The ebullient, irrepressible honcho of still-suspended Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd starred in an hour-long presentation, The Cariboo Gold Fiends, a tap-danceable epic, made to an enthralled crowd at yesterdays Toronto Resource Investment Conference 2013.
Ably supported by a five-man quintet, Frank-who-aint and the Investors (Fraser on spoons, Andrew and Sean on accordions, Tim on banjo and Frank-who-aint on mouth harp), he had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats and in the palm of his hand, calling out for more, more, more.
Bravely ignoring the misfortunes of the last 14 months, he skillfully tap-danced around and over obstacles, regulatory and financial, as he whipped the crowd into a frenzy as they viewed a fusion of exhilarating tap set to an original score with a positive, up-beat tempo and theme. Frank-who-aints rich baritone and Fraser's skillful spoonwork elevated the performance from the exquisite to the sublime.
Unforeseen technical difficulties cut the presentation short at 52 minutes (someone stole the spoons), but the cheers as J Frank and the Investors tap-danced off the stage was overwhelming, even if they, the participants, contributed 60 per-cent of the adulation themselves.
The final audience count, excluding J Frank and the Investors, was four, but my, how those four enjoyed themselves. There wasnt a dry eye in the house as the Investors sang their signature tune, were up shat creek without a paddle, we dont even have a boat and proudly followed their leader as he (and they) exited, stage left.
Three curtain calls followed and it was indeed heart-warming to see those two bikini-clad seniors doing wheelies in their wheelchairs, waving their American flags, and flaunting those banners which stated, next week, next week, its acoming next week.
Rumour has it that Barrick is considering an offer, just to ensure that this doesnt happen again next year (or the year after, lol).
