BARKERVILLE PROVIDES UPDATE ON STATUS OF FIRST NATIONS PROJECT AGREEMENT

Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd. has received a letter dated July 8, 2013, from the Lhtako Dene First Nation (Red Bluff Indian Band) that says the band has cancelled the project agreement in place in regard to the Barkerville's operations in the Cariboo.

The project agreement with the Lhtako Dene was originally signed over 20 years ago and renegotiated in 2010 with the band's previous administration. The project agreement covered employment and contracting opportunities, revenues to be derived from future operations and annual scholarships for Lhtako Dene youth. Over the years, Barkerville has gone above and beyond the letter and spirit of the project agreement and has not been provided with an explanation by the current chief and council or its advisers, Ganhada Management Ltd.

In order to receive provincial approvals, Barkerville was required to work with the Lhtako Dene and other first nations in the vicinity of its projects in the Cariboo to ensure that its operations would not have a negative effect on the ability of aboriginal people to exercise their sustenance and cultural activities...
