PLAINTREE SYSTEMS SIGNS $1 MILLION CONTRACT WITH U.S. NAVY
Will provide Ethernet switches with fiber-optic modules to
mission-critical networks
OTTAWA, CANADA, February 14 /CNW/ - Plaintree Systems Inc. (TSE: LAN;
NASD OTC BB: LANPF), announced today that it has signed a $1 million CDN
contract with the U.S. Navy to provide the Navy with a number of WaveSwitch
4800s with 100Base-FX FastLinx fiber-optic modules. The first shipment in
the order has been delivered to the Navy, with further shipments through
February and March of this year.

WaveSwitch 4800 is the best solution for the Navy's mission-critical needs;

This announcement follows news of the closing of the deal between
Plaintree and the Targa Group. The deal allows the Targa management team to
move Plaintree forward towards a successful future.

The WaveSwitch 4800 is an FDDI/Fast Ethernet switch for the data center
that provides up to 32 100Base-FX interfaces on eight four-port 100Base-FX
fiber-optic FastLinx(TM); modules. FastLinx modules provide full-duplex,
non-blocking 100 Mbps connectivity.
WaveSwitch 4800 features include:
- Full RMON support (9 groups)
- 4096 addresses per FastLinx module
- VLANs (port-based, MAC address-based and protocol-based)
- SmartVIPS(TM); (automatic segregation of IP subnets into separate
broadcast domains)
- SmartSAP(TM); (filtering client stations from SAP and RIP broadcasts
which are prevalent in Novell Netware IPX environments)
- ChannelCast(TM); (multicast transmissions are only sent to ports which
have subscribers)
- Redundant power
