"We have reached a historic agreement to save Vetas, the municipality was about to disappear due to the delimitation of Santurbn. Now we contribute 70% of the territory for the protection of the ecosystem and 30% corresponds to the urban sectors and for the ancestral mining that will not disappear, "said mayor Hernn Bautista in a dialogue with BLU Radio.

According to the Ministry of Environment, more than 2,400 inhabitants of Vetas will be able to continue exercising their ancestral tasks as long as they conserve the water and ecosystem of the Santurbn paramo. "Having this agreement gives us peace of mind within the process to agree on the limits of Santurbn, telling everyone that it is possible with a friendly dialogue and union to advance in the agreements," said Wilson Ramrez, advisor to the Ministry of Environment. For the municipality of Vetas, the total area of pramo is 6,441 hectares, a value higher than the 6,437 hectares established by the Government Resolution. The new delimitation in the municipality of Vetas will not be inferior in terms of environmental protection than that established in the Resolution.

The community of Vetas presented other strategies to end the mining conflict and proposed the creation of a Municipal and Regional Council of the Pramo as instances of permanent coordination between the authorities and the communities.
