New Colombian President...

Left wing and wishful thinking Petro was chosen as new Colombian President. Pension reform, costfree studying , taxes increase to the "rich", all the usual popolistic sweets he had promised to his voters. Oil exploration should be stopped and extraction heavily taxed.

What about mining ? Here is what Bnamericas wrote on May 31 about it:

An important aspect of the government program is to carry out a reform of the current mining code and make institutional adjustments “in accordance with the energy transition and new public mining-energy policy, with an environmental and social perspective."

The plan also outlines reviewing and adjusting monitoring, accounting and control instruments to ensure fair taxation of mining revenues and improvements to the organization of mining, improving control over exploration and exploitation of the minerals and materials essential for the energy transition.

Petro also claims his government will protect ancestral and artisanal mining, as well as subsistence and small-scale mining, providing technical and economic support to help transition to more sustainable operations.

Any speculation on what the new government ...more

The project undoubtedly has economic benefits to the local communities and the Colombian government.  It would be great if the president would acknowledge this and allow it to proceed. My question though is about enforcement of the arbitration ruling.   Isnt there a deadline for Colombia to compensate Eco Oro?   Why hasnt Eco Oro managment aggressively pursued action on ...more
