The program is available to companies who are both registered to do business in Manitoba and are proposing mineral exploration projects in Manitoba. The program provides assistance between 25 - 50% of approved eligible expenditures based on the location of the proposed project. The percentage offered for 2016/2017 are 50% for the Flin Flon / Snow Lake region, 35% for remote regions and 25% for approved expenditures in the balance of Manitoba. A maximum of $200,000 per recipient per fiscal year is available. The MEAP project assessment process has been changed for 2016/2017 to better direct support to projects with a high likelihood of success. Accordingly, project applications will be assessed and ranked on the following criteria: Project located in a region suffering mine closure; Successful completion of previous MEAP projects; Projects which have secured funding; Project budget; Projects which include diamond drill testing of defined targets; Applicant a Manitoba-based company; Applicant a new company to Manitoba; New or continuing project; Commodity type.
