Newlox's Cyanide Use in Costa Rica - A Global Contradiction

Currently, Argentina, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Germany, and Greece have banned the use of cyanide in all gold and silver mining.

Costa Rica has banned cyanide. The ban was motivated by environmental degradation and a repeated failure to operate and control cyanide leaching facilities safely.

Some countries, including Costa Rica, Argentina, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Turkey, have an outright ban on the use of cyanide in gold extraction throughout the country.

A gold cyanidation ban refers to the legislation that bans mining gold through the gold cyanidation technique. Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Costa Rica have such bans, as well as the US states of Montana and Wisconsin and several Argentine provinces.

The following is a curious comment from a company admittedly using cyanide:

To date, mercury and cyanide are the popular lixiviants used in the gold processing industry. These chemicals are harmful to both the environment and humans and have been the major concern in gold mining, Newlox Gold Ventures Corp, being the partner organization for the study, will have the opportunity to pilot the use of DMSO in gold leaching. (BTW: The DMSO claim was never successfully proven.)

Thank you for, finally, providing the source of your quoted paragraph. Now if you could either admit you wrote your post to appear as if it were a news source or provide the link to it as well please? I'm not going to hold it against you beyond ensuring by your admission the kind of full disclosure debates like these should have. It could be as simple as saying 'it was a mistake to present ...more

Derp, here is the aforementioned trade statistics reference from the WorldBank mentioned in the previous post: Sodium Cyanide Imports for 2019 - Costa Rica

Unbelievable. Even after you posted all of your evidence that Newlox was using cyanide in Costa Rica in a “Merrill Crowe/CIL” circuit, you are now claiming that Prof. Veiga’s admission to the use of cyanide is wrong?? He clearly admitted to its use in his speech to the UNEP. https://youtu.be/e89k2xbWcvU?t=5002   “What the reagents are for the Carbon-in-Leach process remains unclear…”   ...more

This is the gutters of internet and it should go without saying everyone should do their own research and come to their own conclusions when performing their due diligence. Further, I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong. I see you are still not. Where is the link to your 'article' and why are you so hesitant to confront the topic? It's such an odd hill to die on - you're not ...more

Good rebuttals to "lurker".....but when you continue to wrestle in the mud with a pig, eventually you will come to realize that the pig likes to wrestle in the mud...... You are engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

Too true brewster123. I just won't have the time this week at least for the same old shenanigans anyways. For anyone interested, tracking down the actual legislation in Costa Rica, which is currently in the process of amendment, will help you to figure out what, exactly, is going on. The DGM and its Director plays an important role here, as does the role of the cooperative of artisanal miners ...more
