RE: RE: Why is opti the environmental poster boy?

RE: RE: Why is opti the environmental poster boy?I agree, the OPTI/Nexen site does make more CO2 than a conventional upgrader, but does it make more than a separate SAGD and Upgrader and Power generation facilites when added together?......, no. LL may be reforming alot of thier hydrogen but once at full capacity and higher efficiency, they should be reforming less H2 than most upgraders because of the H2 they are making. Plus you have to negate the CO2 generated to make electricity as that would ave been sent to atmosphere anyways, just at another location.

Keep in mind, most power generation facilities make electricity with huge amounts of waste steam with no use other than to condense it with river/lake/cooling water. LL is making electricity and SAGD steam with similar amounts of fuel CO2 as a power plant. Obviously, more, but I hope you can now see the advantage of an integrated facility. If you do the full energy balance of the site they will be using less nat gas and generating less CO2 than any other separate SAGD, Upgrader, Power plant, all combined together.

Cenovus has a chart on one of their website powerpoints that shows that their SAGD CO2 foot print, when compared to conventional oil products generation, is very close.......you would have to admit that LL integrated process, when you look at all aspects of the site, will be much better.
