Quidel test problems

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/07/22/nation/tale-two-tests-vermont-city-left-puzzled-by-positive-then-negative-covid-19-results/?outputType=amp&__twitter_impression=true

Has this been shared? There's no way Quidel has a product that's ready for widespread use. They rushed their product out and I see it backfiring on them soon. Their in-house validation used frozen samples. No third party validation or clinical trials. Now they claim 96.7% accuracy? It's crazy to claim that without a third party validation. I can see a lawsuit at some point.

Although most of us here wanted Sona to have a product out in April as Jim implied in his interview, the Sona team has made all the right moves. Product development takes time. A couple months ago I was dreaming about the day this stock hits $10. Now we're at $14 and not even approved yet. Triple digits will easily be achievable here. David said we can produce 1 billion tests (no timeline on that). We have one shot to get the best product on the market and then mass produce the sh*t out of it. Imagine if we are invested in the gold standard of testing. A demand as big as it gets and a competition with an inferior product. This company is going to change a lot of lives!

This goes to show you why you need skilled lab techs running tests and not some part timer. Taken from someone else more  into these things.than I.  the BG article. It appears that the high number of false positives was limited to one individual clinic site in Vermont and Quidel management has dispatched technical experts from the company to investigate the situation. Given the high ...more

Very well could be correct in it being an isolated incident, but there is no evidence in this clinic being run by a bunch of "part timers". I would assume there is at least some level of competency in a clinic testing for covid. It could just as likely be a bad batch of tests. Even if this is human error, does the fact that Quidel has no third party validation not put you on edge ...more

I have posted previous how companies do their testing.  If U want you can call the FDA  and ask how they chceck Quidels results  .   Quidels labs are probanly just as good if not better than MRi labs.  Why pay someone else to do tests.

Well I would say to avoid perceived conflict of interest if they were to come across a problem in the test. Anyway I hope it was an isolated event. Quidels test is needed, just like Sona's is, I just personally like Sona's approach more. Lots of testing to go around. Nice to hear difference of opinion, keeps the DD going! GLTA!

And I'm not sure that would be conflict of interest but moreso to avoid liability in a lawsuit if claims were inaccurate

Nothing to do with poor Lab Technicians. This is not the first time that Quidel´s test has had problems. The problem could lie with faults in the machine as it has been stated by several commentators that Covid machines ( used by various companies) were not designed to run 24/7 permanently or that the test ( which has not been 3rd party verified which would not be allowed now) is not as ...more

Can we stop talking about Quidel.  We all know the TheRook has a "whatever" for Quidel as he just keeps trying so hard to make it sound like Quidel has a better Antigen Test than Sona.  Theres is okay and has it's place but it is not nearly as attractive as Sona's to the market we have.  We don't want machines that need tuning, and cause bottleneck with results ...more

Well said! Over time the market will sort out the companies with low performance high error rates!   Sona is best of breed and the share price reflects that!
Comment by dart321 on Jul 26, 2020 10:47am
that is correct, the best of the breed always reflects quality and a premium is always given to the best in whatever sector they may be in. Medical and tech sectors tend to get much higher premiums. We will likely see a strong test premium if they come back strong. The huge premium is reserved to when they announce sales.

First time I joined any forum is this one! You have a group here that consistently elevates the investment environment with your meticulous well approached methology. Your factual intentions show honesty and good intent. As for all the people you called out - you can see that their intent is malfeasance. Bad advice is bad advice! Thank you and keep up the good work!
