I think this phantom JV knows for their own individual reasons that together they will never build out this mine as partners. If so, they both stand to gain by adding more ounces as time ticks by as it goes through the various hoops that it must travel. A senior with time and a macro view of the pit, the unexplored concession, and now neighboring properties with potential, has emerged in the area in the name of Newmont. Quietly, they recently signed a deal with the CME group to gain up to a 70% interest in 3 or 4 properties within 25-50 kilometers of Montagne D'Or. Having a successful operation up and running across the river in Surnamie, makes this a very profitable mini district if it were all to come together. They by who they are could carry the juice to get this all done. Here's the news release:

VANCOUVER (miningweekly.com) – US gold producer Newmont Mining has entered an agreement with French miner Compagnie Miniere Esperance (CME) to earn up to a 70% interest in the Esperance gold discovery, in French Guiana.

Newmont will make multi-year investments in the property, which it believes has multimillion-ounce potential.
