My journey is coming to end with the announcement of the High-Tide acquisition of Choom last week. Choom has been an amazing ride - taking the risk of coming into a start-up in need of a full turnaround to building it and finally preparing it for sale. Needless to say, this journey wasn't linear or without its challenges. From an entirely new legalized sector that, in most cases, had regulations and policy being created along the way, to pandemic lockdowns that stressed every inch of this newly created sector. However, it was all worth every learning, late night and early morning. It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to the incredible Choom team - a professional group of innovators whom I consider to be friends and colleagues. But, most importantly, they are all leaders in this ever-evolving space. I could not be prouder of this group and will always have the fondest memories of our time together. Furthermore, the suppliers and other retailers I have had the pleasure to partner with, farewell and thank you. I wish you all the best in the future. In the next 12 to 18 months, amongst other things, the retail cannabis sector will need to continue to rationalize and consolidate in order to create a healthy environment where local, regional and national retailers can thrive.
