The business model is soon dead and COA doesn't stand a chance. 

The regulations are to be changed soon enough based on lobbying by COA.  COA doesn' t realize that the changes that are to be made will knock them out of contention.  See the press release from the BC Health Minister released last week.

Why would a contact lens company not set up online orders themselves???
The BC government has just proposed that the dispensing party need not be an optician/optometrist to allow internet sellers.
If J&J, Ciba, Cooper, B&L set-up their own online orders and ship it to a person's address.

Why can't I buy a Ford online from www.ford.ca, why can't I buy my Polk speakers online from www.polk.com? etc. This ruling only helps COA. People want to go to one website for contacts due to selection. If anything this ruling will hurt opticians & optometrists and retail stores. I've ordered 6 pairs of glasses, and over 15 contact boxes. Their service and prices are ...more

- Here is the full press release that the B.C. Health Minister released- It removes some uncertainty from Coastal but it seemed like a done deal- Since the internet has gained traction over the past 10 years or so, some manufacturers have decided to compete against their distributors (who are the manufacturers customers) and sell their products online.  Few have had success, I believe.  ...more

Well put FFH.  Even if the manufacturers suddenly decided to change their whole business model on the back of a policy decision of one canadian province they, believe it or not they could barely compete.  Sure they could presumably trump the price on their one product but they couldnt offer the selection, and now, a comprehensive eyeglass offering.  Would they really ...more
